Example

What to work out
Specific gravity from three weighings
Measure mode: weight of the empty container
20 g
Measure mode: container filled with the liquid
51.25 g
Measure mode: container filled with water
45 g

Result: Specific gravity: 1.25.

The tool opens with these values already filled in. Replace them with your own.

What you enter

  • What to work out: weight of a volume, volume of a weight, specific gravity from three weighings (measure), or % w/w to % w/v (strength)
  • Specific gravity, or density in g/mL (all modes but measure)
  • Volume (weight mode)
  • Weight (volume mode)
  • Strength in % w/w (strength mode)
  • Measure mode: weight of the empty container
  • Measure mode: container filled with the liquid
  • Measure mode: container filled with water
How this is calculated

Citation

Definitions: density is mass per volume, and specific gravity is a liquid's density over water's, with water taken as 1 g/mL. Weight = volume × specific gravity; % w/v = % w/w × specific gravity.
