How this is calculated
Citation
Arithmetic identity, from the definitions of percent weight-in-volume and ratio strength: 1% w/v is 1 g in 100 mL, so 10 mg/mL; a ratio 1:X is 1 g in X mL, so 1000/X mg/mL. ppm and ppb as mass fractions of 10^-6 and 10^-9: NIST Special Publication 811, section 7.10.3, which deprecates both terms.
