Example

Patient age band
Over 40 years
Disease stage
Late
Transplanted in first complete remission
No
Months from diagnosis to transplant
36 months
Donor type
Unrelated donor
Female donor into a male recipient
Yes

Result: 7

What the result means

0 to 2
Low risk.
3 to 4
Intermediate risk.
5 to 7
Poor risk.
First CR
THE TIMING ITEM DISAPPEARS. It scores 0 however long the interval was, so the maximum reachable score is 6, not 7.
Sex item
ONE DIRECTION ONLY: female donor into male recipient. Not a generic "sex mismatch" item.
Donor
Only two published categories. HAPLOIDENTICAL AND CORD-BLOOD DONORS HAVE NO DEFINED VALUE.
Timing
12 months or less = 0. Some reproductions print "<12 / >12", leaving exactly 12 unclassified.
Aplastic anemia
ALWAYS scores 0 for stage, by definition - the ladder is built from remission states it lacks.
Scope
Group-level pre-transplant estimate. Does not decide whether to transplant. A high score is NOT a reason to withhold it.
Axis
Scores the disease and the transplant. The HCT-CI scores organ comorbidity. Complementary, not alternatives.

What you enter

  • Patient age band
  • Disease stage.
  • Transplanted in first complete remission.
  • Months from diagnosis to transplant.
  • Donor type.
  • Female donor into a male recipient.
Full field descriptions
  • Patient age band [under-20 = 0; 20-40 = 1; over-40 = 2]
  • Disease stage [early = 0; intermediate = 1; late = 2]. Severe aplastic anemia is always early.
  • Transplanted in first complete remission. YES SUPPRESSES THE TIMING ITEM ENTIRELY: it scores 0 regardless of the interval, and the maximum reachable score becomes 6.
  • Months from diagnosis to transplant. Required ONLY outside first complete remission. More than 12 scores 1.
  • Donor type [hla-identical-sibling = 0; unrelated = 1]. THESE ARE THE ONLY TWO PUBLISHED CATEGORIES - haploidentical and cord-blood donors have no defined value in this score.
  • Female donor into a male recipient. ONE DIRECTION ONLY: this exact combination scores 1; male donor into female recipient and both matched combinations score 0.
