Pires Classification (Interprosthetic Femur Fracture)

Derives the Pires type of a femur fracture between a hip stem and a knee femoral component on the same side.

Example

Knee femoral component
Unstemmed knee femoral component
Fracture site
Closer to the hip stem
Hip stem fixation
Loose
Knee component fixation
Well fixed

Result: Pires type IB: a fracture closer to the hip stem than to the unstemmed knee component; the hip stem is loose and the knee component well fixed.

The tool opens with these values already filled in. Replace them with your own.

What you enter

  • Knee femoral component
  • Fracture site (needed when the knee component is unstemmed)
  • Hip stem fixation
  • Knee component fixation
  • Bone between the implants (needed when the knee component is stemmed)
