- C — lateral pillar < 50% (poorest prognosis)
Result: Herring group C: the lateral pillar is less than 50% of its original height; the poorest-prognosis group.

What the result means
- Group A / B
- Lateral pillar not involved, best prognosis (A); pillar > 50% of original height (B).
- Group B/C border
- Narrow or poorly ossified lateral pillar at about 50% height. An intermediate, poorer-prognosis group.
- Group C
- Lateral pillar < 50% of original height. The poorest-prognosis group.
