Example

Retinal thickening or hard exudates in the posterior pole
Yes
Location relative to the center of the macula
Involving the center (severe / center-involving)

Result: Severe DME: retinal thickening or hard exudates involving the center of the macula (center-involving, vision-threatening).

The tool opens with these values already filled in. Replace them with your own.

What the result means

absent
No apparent retinal thickening or hard exudates in the posterior pole.
mild
Thickening or hard exudates in the posterior pole but distant from the center of the macula.
moderate
Thickening or hard exudates approaching the center of the macula but not involving it.
severe
Thickening or hard exudates involving the center of the macula — center-involving, vision-threatening DME.

What you enter

  • Retinal thickening or hard exudates in the posterior pole
  • Location relative to the center of the macula
