Capsule Fill Weight and Diluent

Diluent and fill weight per capsule and per batch, from measured fill weights or capsule volume and tapped densities.

Example

Method: measured fill weights of each powder alone (weights)
From measured fill weights of each powder alone
Number of capsules
30
Active per capsule
100 mg
Weights method: active alone that fills one capsule
400 mg
Weights method: diluent alone that fills one capsule
300 mg

Result: 225 mg of diluent with 100 mg of active per capsule; for 30 capsules, 3 g of active and 6.75 g of diluent.

The tool opens with these values already filled in. Replace them with your own.

What you enter

  • Method: measured fill weights of each powder alone (weights), or capsule volume and tapped densities (densities)
  • Number of capsules
  • Extra capsules to allow for loss (optional)
  • Active per capsule
  • Weights method: active alone that fills one capsule
  • Weights method: diluent alone that fills one capsule
  • Densities method: capsule body volume, from the capsule maker's sheet
  • Densities method: tapped density of the active
  • Densities method: tapped density of the diluent
How this is calculated

Citation

Arithmetic identity (the capsule holds a fixed volume): the diluent fills the fraction of the capsule the active leaves. Fill weights, the capsule volume and tapped densities are the reader's own measurements or the capsule maker's figures.
