What Is Actually in the Bag (Admixture Strength)

True strength of an IV bag after additions, counting overfill, volume withdrawn and additive volume.

Open the tool → Runs in your browser. Data leaves only if you deliberately send a problem report from the interactive tool.

Example

Unit of the additive amount
mg
State the strength per mL (mL) or per liter
Per mL
Nominal bag volume
250 mL
Overfill, from the manufacturer
25 mL
Additions of the drug, one per line
500, 10

Result: 1.75439 mg/mL in a final volume of 285 mL.

The tool opens with these values already filled in. Replace them with your own.

What you enter

  • Unit of the additive amount
  • State the strength per mL (mL) or per liter (L)
  • Nominal bag volume
  • Overfill, from the manufacturer (blank if not known)
  • Volume withdrawn before adding (optional)
  • Additions of the drug, one per line: amount, then its volume in mL
  • Other volume added that holds none of the drug (optional)
  • Strength already in the bag fluid, in the strength unit chosen (optional)
  • Target strength, in the strength unit chosen (optional)
How this is calculated

Citation

Arithmetic identity: final strength = amount in the bag ÷ final volume, where final volume = nominal + overfill − withdrawn + volumes added. Every number is the reader's; no overfill figure is supplied.
