What the result means

Critical
Enters sterile tissue or the bloodstream (surgical instruments, implants); requires sterilization.
Semicritical
Contacts mucous membranes or non-intact skin (endoscopes); requires at least high-level disinfection.
Noncritical
Contacts intact skin only (BP cuffs, stethoscopes); requires low-level disinfection.
