What this is

A weight-based dosing reference for the small set of medications most often given to children in a prehospital or resuscitation setting - epinephrine (cardiac arrest and anaphylaxis), atropine, amiodarone, adenosine, dextrose (D10/D25), naloxone, midazolam, fentanyl, normal saline boluses, and the defibrillation energy dose (J/kg). Enter the patient's weight in kilograms and Sophie Well returns the standard mg / mcg / mL / J calculated against the per-kg formula plus the typical maximum (the adult ceiling many pediatric doses cap at).

When to use it

Use this in field code situations or as a learning tool when a Broselow tape or institutional pediatric resuscitation reference is not immediately available, and as a sanity-check on a calculated dose before it is drawn up. The doses listed here are reference values drawn from FDA labeling and PALS-style resuscitation literature; institutional pediatric protocols, the active hospital pharmacy formulary, and the on-shift pediatric intensivist or PEM physician are the operating authority on the truck or in the resuscitation bay. For non-resuscitation pediatric dosing (antibiotics, antiepileptics, opioids on a ward), use the institutional dosing reference, not this tool.
