What the result means
- Type I
- Indirect inguinal hernia with a normal internal ring; posterior wall intact.
- Type II
- Indirect inguinal hernia with a dilated internal ring; posterior wall intact.
- Type IIIa
- Direct inguinal hernia (a posterior-wall / transversalis-fascia defect).
- Type IIIb
- Large indirect hernia encroaching on the posterior wall (sliding / pantaloon).
- Type IIIc
- Femoral hernia.
- Type IV
- Recurrent hernia (a direct, b indirect, c femoral, d combined).
