Kennedy classification of the partially edentulous arch (Kennedy 1925; Applegate rules): the class is set by the most-posterior edentulous area.

Result: Kennedy Class II, modification 1 — unilateral edentulous area posterior to the remaining teeth.

What the result means
- Classes
- I bilateral posterior; II unilateral posterior; III unilateral bounded by teeth; IV single anterior area crossing the midline.
- Rules
- The most-posterior area sets the class; extra areas are modification spaces numbered by count. Class IV admits no modifications.
