What the result means
- Gate
- a bile leak is drain bilirubin >= 3x serum bilirubin on/after POD 3, or the need for radiologic/operative intervention for a biliary collection or bile peritonitis; otherwise no leak.
- Grade
- Grade C = requires relaparotomy; Grade B = change in management without relaparotomy (or a grade A leak > 1 week); Grade A = no/little management change.
What you enter
- Drain bilirubin >= 3x serum on/after POD 3, OR need for radiologic/operative intervention (the bile-leak gate)
- Requires relaparotomy (Grade C)
- Change in management without relaparotomy (percutaneous drainage, ERCP/stent), or a grade A leak persisting > 1 week (Grade B)
