Infusion Time Remaining & Rate-to-Last

Infusion timing: time to empty a bag at the current rate, and, in the same call, the rate needed to make a bag last a target number of hours.

Open the calculator → Runs in your browser. Data leaves only if you deliberately send a problem report from the interactive tool.

Example

Volume remaining
250 mL
Current rate
100 mL/hr
Target duration
8 hours

Result: 250 mL at 100 mL/hr empties in 2h 30m; to last 8 h, run at 31.3 mL/hr.

The tool opens with these values already filled in. Replace them with your own.

What you enter

  • Volume remaining
  • Current rate (for the time-to-empty answer)
  • Target duration (for the rate-to-last answer)
How this is calculated

Utility-class infusion arithmetic: time to empty = volume / rate; rate to last N hours = volume / N. ISMP Guidelines for Optimizing Safe Use of Smart Infusion Pumps (safe-practice framing).
