GOLD Spirometric Grade (COPD)
GOLD spirometric grade of COPD airflow obstruction from post-bronchodilator FEV1 % predicted and the FEV1/FVC ratio.

Example
- FEV1
- 45 % predicted
- FEV1/FVC ratio (0-1) — leave blank to compute from volumes
- 0.6
Result: Obstruction present (FEV1/FVC 0.6 < 0.70); GOLD 3 - severe (FEV1 30-49% predicted) at FEV1 45% predicted.
The tool opens with these values already filled in. Replace them with your own.
What the result means
- Obstruction
- Post-bronchodilator FEV1/FVC < 0.70 defines obstruction; at or above 0.70 no GOLD spirometric grade is assigned.
- Grade (FEV1 %predicted)
- GOLD 1 >= 80%; 2 50-79%; 3 30-49%; 4 < 30%, assigned only when obstruction is present.
- Caveat
- The spirometric grade is severity only; the GOLD ABE group that drives pharmacotherapy also weighs symptoms and exacerbations.
What you enter
- FEV1
- FEV1/FVC ratio (0-1) — leave blank to compute from volumes
- FEV1 (optional, to compute the ratio)
- FVC (optional, to compute the ratio)
