What this is

Administer the seven-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (Spitzer 2006). Each item is scored 0-3 ("not at all" to "nearly every day") over the past two weeks; Sophie Well sums to a 0-21 total and returns the published severity band - minimal (0-4), mild (5-9), moderate (10-14), or severe (15-21) - plus the conventional treatment-consideration threshold at 10.

When to use it

Use this as a primary-care or behavioral-health screener for generalized anxiety, or to track response over time during treatment. GAD-7 is a screening instrument, not a diagnostic test; a positive score warrants a structured clinical interview, and item 9 of the paired PHQ-9 should be reviewed in parallel for active suicidality.
