Example

- Solid (weigh, dilute with a powder, weigh an aliquot)
- Drug needed
- 8 mg
- Minimum weighable quantity of the balance
- 200 mg
Result: Weigh 200 mg of drug, add 4,800 mg of diluent to make 5,000 mg, and take a 200 mg aliquot, which holds 8 mg.

What you enter
- Method: a solid or a liquid aliquot
- Drug needed
- Minimum weighable quantity of the balance
- Solid: aliquot weight (blank uses the smallest that keeps every weighing at or above the minimum)
- Liquid: volume the drug is dissolved to
- Liquid: smallest volume that can be measured

Arithmetic identity (proportion): weigh a whole multiple of the drug wanted, dilute it, and take the part that carries the quantity wanted. The minimum weighable quantity is the reader's own figure; none is assumed.
