What the result means
- VIP 2
- Early stage of phlebitis: resite cannula (Jackson 1998).
- VIP 3
- Medium stage: resite cannula and consider treatment.
- VIP 4-5
- Advanced phlebitis or thrombophlebitis: initiate treatment and resite cannula.
- INS >=3
- Stop the infusion and follow your infiltration and extravasation policy.
- Vesicant
- Any amount of blood product, irritant or vesicant is grade 4 on the INS scale. Antidotes are drug-specific.
