What the result means
- Parameters
- the APACHE-II acute-physiology score over 9 parameters (temperature, HR, RR, sodium, potassium, creatinine, hematocrit, WBC, bicarbonate), each 0-4 by deviation, summed 0-36.
- Threshold
- a total > 9 predicts high mortality (survivors averaged ~6.9, non-survivors ~13.5). Creatinine points double for acute renal failure (raising the max to 40).
