What the result means
- ≥ 18 µg/dL (500 nmol/L)
- Normal adrenal response at 30 or 60 min; a normal high-dose cosyntropin response makes adrenal insufficiency unlikely.
- < 18 µg/dL (500 nmol/L)
- Below the standard-immunoassay threshold; suggestive of adrenal insufficiency. Newer LC-MS/MS assays use lower cutoffs — use your laboratory’s.
