What the result means

Severity
Mild > 1.5; moderate 1.0-1.5; severe < 1.0 cm2. DI < 0.25 corroborates severe and is less geometry-dependent.
Caveat
Low-flow / low-gradient aortic stenosis needs integrated assessment; the severity adjudication stays with the heart team.

Formula
AVA = (pi x (LVOT diameter/2)^2 x LVOT VTI) / AV VTI. Dimensionless index = LVOT VTI / AV VTI.
